Box Score Prescott, Ariz. – In the California Pacific Conference opener for both teams, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) men's soccer had to hold off a late charge by Park University – Gilbert to come up with a 3-2 victory. Djougher Oliveira (SR/Belo Horizonte, Brazil) scored the game winning goal in the second half and also added an assist for the Eagles.
In the 21st minute of the opening 45, Embry-Riddle (5-0, 1-0 Cal Pac) saw its offense start to click, generating six shots in 10 minutes. The sixth shot, Lucas Garcia (JR/Barcelona, Spain), found the mark, with Oliveira adding the assist to put the Eagles on top. There were only two more shots taken in the half, both by Park (0-4, 0-1 Cal Pac), with one of those attempts saved by Eagle goalkeeper Alastair Stark (SR/Sevenoaks, England), to keep it a 1-0 game at the half.
Jacob Baker (SR/Graham, Wash.) opened the scoring in the second half with a tally 14 minutes in and less than three minutes later Oliveira connected on an assist from Nick Woll (SO/Newhall, Calif.) and the Eagles were up 3-0 with 30 minutes left. It seemed to be a secure lead until the Buccaneers got on the board in the 79th minute. That score energized the Park offense and they got off four more shots over a seven-minute span, with the fourth shot resulting in another score with 2:34 left. That would be as close as Park would get, however, as ERAU held on to remain undefeated on the season.
