Box Score Mesa, Ariz. – Three first half goals proved to be more than enough for the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) men's soccer team as the Eagles shutout Benedictine University-Mesa 5-0 in California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) action. Djougher Oliveira (SR/Belo Horizonte, Brazil) continued his strong play of late, scoring twice, including the game-winner.
Benedictine (0-5, 0-2 Cal Pac) got off to a solid start, getting four shots off, two of which were turned away by Elias Ammon (FR/Bremen, Germany). After holding off the Red Hawks opening salvo, Embry-Riddle (6-0, 2-0 Cal Pac) solved the BenU defense in the 26th minute when Oliveira found the back of the net. Ten minutes later he made it 2-0 in favor of the Eagles, this time off an assist from Nick Woll (SO/Newhall, Calif.). A late flurry for ERAU that saw the Eagle get off four shots in less than two minutes resulted in another score, with Woll finding the back of the net at 42:01 that gave ERAU a 3-0 lead at the half.
After an even first 15 minutes of the second half, Oliveira was part of another score for the Eagles, this time assisting on Jacob Baker (SR/Graham, Wash.)'s goal at the 61:37 mark. The ERAU defense limited the Red Hawks to just three more shots the rest of the way to prevent any comeback attempt. Lucas Garcia (JR/Barcelona, Spain) put the finishing touches on the victory, converting on a penalty kick with a little more than 10 minutes left.
