Embry-Riddle Takes No. 1 Keiser to Overtime Before Falling, 3-2

Box Score

West Palm Beach, Fla. – A comeback effort against No. 1 Keiser University in the final game of its trip to Florida fell just short for the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) women's soccer team as the Eagles fell in double overtime, 3-2. Haley Harris (SO/Tucson, Ariz.) notched the goal that wound up sending the game to extra time on a penalty kick and Mackenzie Osther (SR/San Diego, Calif.) made 15 saves in goal to keep the Eagles in it.

Much like its first game in Florida on Friday, Embry-Riddle (1-3-1) saw its opponent strike for a score early when Keiser (3-0) got on the board just 2:02 in. The teams then traded shots over the next 20 minutes before the Seahawks tallied another score on a shot into the left side of the net. It took only four minutes for the Eagles to respond when Katy Hyde (JR/Denton, Texas) picked up her second goal of the season on a left-footed shot from just inside the box that found the mark. Keiser had a couple of chances to extend its lead in the final 15 minutes of the half, but three saves by Osther kept it a one-goal game.

In the second half Keiser outshot ERAU, 10-1, over the first 26 minutes of the half in an attempt to extend its lead. Thanks to five saves by Osther, the Eagles stayed close and ready to take advantage of an opportunity to tie the game. That opportunity came in the 75th minute when Keiser was called for a foul in the box. Harris stepped up and buried her penalty kick into the back of the next, bringing ERAU back even. That is where it would stay for the remainder of regulation, as all three combined shots on goal over the final minutes were saved.

Embry-Riddle had a solid chance to net the game-winner in the final minute of the first OT with a pair of shots generated off a corner kick. But the attempts by Hyde and Harris were blocked. A corner kick in the fifth minute of the second overtime for Keiser proved to be the difference in the game. The kick was on target in the box and headed in past Osther to put it in the win column for the Seahawks.
