Box Score WADDELL, ARIZ. – Another successful trip to the Valley was completed by the Embry-Riddle baseball team on Tuesday night, as they defeated Arizona Christian 15-5 at Canyon View High School. The Eagles used big innings in the fifth and the sixth to pull away from the Firestorm, and are now 3-1 in road games in the state of Arizona this season.
The Eagles had two runs going into the fifth inning, both on extra base hits. Roberto Garza-Nunez hit a solo home run in the second, then Travis Strickler drilled an RBI triple in the third to tie the game at that point.
The Firestorm scored a run in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead, and neither team could score in the fourth. Bryson Ho sandwiched a double in between the first two outs of the inning, and following the second out, the Eagles had the next five batters reach base, with the big run-scoring play coming via a bases-clearing error in right field.
Embry-Riddle scored three more times in the eighth to extend its lead, highlighted by Kevin Fedoruk's two-RBI single. Josh Beattie finished the scoring for the Eagles by homering on the first pitch he saw in the game to lead off the top of the ninth.
Eight of the nine players in ERAU's starting lineup had at least one hit, and the 2-5 spots in the lineup had two hits each. Four different players also had multiple RBI, as Carson Ramocinski and Luke Jepsen joined Garza-Nunez and Fedoruk on the evening in that category.
ERAU pitching gave up just six hits on the night, and no pitcher to enter the game gave up more than two. The staff also struck out 13 total Firestorm batters, and each pitcher to take the mound also recorded at least one strikeout.
The Eagles will get back on the road in just three days, as they head to California to face 13th-ranked Vanguard. The first game of a three-game series is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. AZ Time.
