Mussler Makes Program History with Complete-Game Gem

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – After an offensive showcase the night before, the Eagles used pitching and timely hitting to take home a victory from OUAZ on Friday. Mitchell Mussler went all nine innings, the first complete-game in program history, and the Eagles scored all of its runs after the fifth inning to win 6-2.

Mussler was in a jam in the first inning, with the first two runners reaching and getting into the scoring position. While one run came across on a sac fly, Mussler struck out a pair to limit the damage.

OUAZ sent just seven runners to the plate over the next two innings, and managed another run in the bottom of the fourth. Mussler allowed just one hit after the fourth , and nine of the final 15 outs were strikeouts.

Mussler struck out a total of 14 batters, and allowed just six baserunners all game (four hits, one walk, one hit batter). The sophomore also allowed just one extra-base hit, a double to OUAZ's second batter of the night.

The offense started its scoring in the sixth inning, putting up three runs to take the lead for the first time on Friday. It started with Roberto Garza-Nunez's leadoff walk, Bryson Ho had an RBI, and the big blow was Gavin Botts's two-RBI single with the bases loaded.

The Eagles added three more insurance runs, and in nearly the exact same way as in the sixth. Ho recorded an RBI single, and Botts once again delivered two-RBI single to push ERAU's lead to four.

While the Eagles did not score as many points as they did Thursday, the team came to hit again. Ho went 3-4 with his two RBI, and Carson Ramocinski recorded a 2-3 day. As a team, Embry-Riddle racked up 11 hits.

The final game of the series is Saturday afternoon, with first pitch from Surprise Stadium scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
