Embry-Riddle Takes Second Straight Series

Box Score

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team clinched its second consecutive series win on Saturday, defeating OUAZ 4-3 at Surprise Stadium. The Eagles have finished .500 or better in each of its first three weekends in program history.

It was another great day for ERAU starting pitching, as Jonah Montes went five innings allowing just two hits. Montes struck out four, and did not walk anyone, with the two baserunners being the pair of hits scattered across the five frames.

Zach Sharp and Cole Altherr had another great stint out of the bullpen, as the reliable relievers got the Eagles into the ninth inning unscathed. Sharp went the sixth inning giving up just a hit, and Altherr pitched two frames without giving up a hit and walking just one.

The Spirit got all of its runs in the ninth, as they scored three with its final chance and put the Eagles on the ropes. After a bases-loaded walk to cut the Embry-Riddle lead to one, Dayne Pengelly struck out Calvin Colon-Baez to secure the victory.

ERAU scored all of its run in the middle innings, scoring in the fourth, fifth and sixth. The Eagles finally broke the scoreless tie thanks to RBI from Luke Jepsen and Carson Ramocinski. Travis Strickler and Kevin Fedoruk each drove in a run in the fifth and sixth inning, respectively.

The Eagles finished the day with nine hits, highlighted by Ramocinski's 2-3 afternoon. Eight different ERAU players posted a hit, and all nine players in the starting lineup found their way on base at one point on Saturday.

Embry-Riddle's competition continues to increase, and the Eagles will head to California for its first four-game series. ERAU will face Hope International for a pair of doubleheaders, the first coming next Friday in Fullerton.
