Box Score 2 PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team put together two excellent offensive performances on Saturday, but could not take the series against Benedictine-Mesa. The Eagles do wrap up its inaugural home weekend with a win, leaving victorious on Friday afternoon.
Game 1: Benedictine-Mesa 16, Embry-Riddle 15
The Eagles used another big inning in the first game on Saturday, scoring nine runs in the third inning to jump out to a large lead. Embry-Riddle had eight hits in the third, capping the inning off with Owen Cain's grand slam.
The Eagles led 13-6 after the fifth inning, but the Redhawks scored ten unanswered between the sixth and ninth innings. Cain hit his second home run of the game to pull Embry-Riddle within one, but BenU finished the game out to hold on.
Cain was 4-for-5 in the first matchup, driving in six runs with his two round trippers. Luke Jepsen had three hits as well, driving in a pair along with Carson Ramocinski.
Game 2: Benedictine-Mesa 10, Embry-Riddle 9
Embry-Riddle had to play catch-up in the second game of the day, as the Redhawks jumped out to a big lead early. The Eagles trailed 10-3 after the seventh inning, but turned the momentum around in the eighth.
ERAU scored six runs in the eighth inning, pulling within one run. The Eagles had three hits in the inning, all doubles, and scored half of its runs on Travis Strickler's two-bagger that just missed leaving the yard to tie the game.
Jepsen had a great second game at the plate, going 4-for-5, driving in a run, and scoring two of his own. Blake Moore used his impressive hustle and speed to record an inside-the-park home run in the seventh to ignite the Embry-Riddle comeback.
Calvin Solie also had a pair of RBI, bringing home runners with a base hit in the fourth and a walk in the eighth. Josh Beattie also had two hits in the final game on Saturday, and also got on once via a walk.
The Eagles will have two days off before heading to the Valley for a midweek game with Arizona Christian. First pitch from Canyon View High School in Waddell, Ariz. is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
