Eagles Sweep Inaugural Cal Pac Series

Box Score

IRVINE, CALIF. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team participated in another roller-coaster contest with Westcliff on Saturday night, and the Eagles pulled out another victory, this time leaving California with a 7-6 decision. The three games against the Warriors were the first Cal Pac contests in program history, and ERAU swept its first three-game series ever.

Westcliff took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, and the game stayed at 1-0 until the sixth inning. The teams combined for 12 of the game's 13 runs in the final four frames, volleying the lead back and forth.

The Eagles scored a pair of runs with two RBI hits in the sixth. Owen Cain singled to bring home Gavin Speck, then came around to score himself thanks to Roberto Garza-Nunez's double in the next at-bat.

The Warriors regained the lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh, but ERAU did its most damage in the top of the eighth. The Eagles scored five runs to take back the lead, and would not give it up again the rest of the night.

Garza-Nunez had another run scoring double in the eighth, this time driving in two with a shot down the left field line. Josh Beattie then had a two-RBI hit of his own, then scored when Kevin Fedoruk singled up the middle with two outs.

Aiden Vestbie had another solid outing, going five innings, just giving up one run and four hits. Zach Sharp finished the game on the mound for the second straight game, earning his first career save in the process.

Both of Garza-Nunez's hits produced runs, as he finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Beattie and Fedoruk each had two hits as well, and Beattie drove in a pair.

Embry-Riddle's exhibition game with NCAA DIII Chapman scheduled for Sunday has been canceled, so the next ERAU game will be the inaugural home game when Benedictine-Mesa comes to Prescott. First pitch of the first ever home game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11.
