Eagles Score 18 Unanswered Runs for Series-Opening Victory

PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – In the first inning of the most important series to the Embry-Riddle baseball program to date, the Eagles trailed 5-0 and had two errors. ERAU proved why baseball is more than just one inning, as they scored the final 18 runs of the game in a seven-inning victory over Marymount California on Friday.

Embry-Riddle continued its power show, hitting four home runs, six doubles and a triple. Those were 11 hits were more than half of the team's 18 hits, and had 3+ hits in four of the six inning the Eagles hit.

The four home runs came by two players, as Travis Strickler and Roberto Garza-Nunez each smashed a pair. Garza-Nunez slammed both of his in the same inning, as he had three RBI on the bombs in the second inning.

The Eagles scored 10 of its runs in that second inning to set up another run-rule victory. Embry-Riddle banged out six extra base hits in the frame, and five different players drove in runs.

Garza-Nunez finished the game with five RBI and a three-hit performance. Strickler drove in four as well, with three of those coming from his home run in the second inning.

Aiden Vestbie had three hits, all singles, and had three RBI to match. Blake Moore drove in a pair, plus Calvin Solie and Luke Jepsen had one RBI each.

Mitchell Mussler posted yet another complete game win, striking out three and allowing just five hits. Only two earned runs were charged to Mussler as he had a dominant final six innings to earn his eighth win of the season.

The Eagles will continue its series with Marymount California on Saturday in a doubleheader. First pitch from the ERAU Baseball Field is scheduled for 11 a.m.
