Box Score MESA, Ariz. – Benedictine-Mesa scored seven times in the first inning and never looked back as the Redhawks scored an 8-4 win over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in California Pacific Conference baseball play. Juniors Calvin Solie (Buckeye, Ariz.) and Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) each drove in a pair of runs for the Eagles.
BenU got a lead off home run to start its half of the first inning and then capped off the inning with a grand slam as the Redhawks banged out five hits in the inning on their way to the 7-0 lead. Embry-Riddle got on the board in the third when junior Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.) and freshman Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) opened the inning with singles. Solie then followed with a triple to left that cut the Benedictine-Mesa lead to five runs.
ERAU struck again in the fifth, with Solie singling and senior Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) reaching on an error. Barragan then delivered a two-out, two-run double to make it 7-4. That would be the final hit of the game for the Eagles, however, as they were not able to mount a rally after that as Benedicitine-Mesa went on to take the win.
