ERAU Completes Series Sweep of Park-Gilbert

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – After scoring 15 runs on Friday against Park-Gilbert, the Embry-Riddle baseball team continued to rack up the runs, taking a Californica Pacific Conference doubleheader by scores of 12-2 and 10-5 on Senior Day for ERAU. The 12 and 10 runs extended the Eagles streak to eight straight games in which they have scored 10 or more runs. Junior Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) totaled five hits and drove in two runs while scoring four times.

Game 1

Senior Travis Strickler (Gilbert, Ariz.) put the Eagles on the board quickly with a first inning solo shot to deep left center. ERAU then added another run on an error for a 2-0 lead. Park came back to tie things up with a run in the second on a sac fly and a run in the third on a bases loaded walk,

In the fifth Embry-Riddle took advantage of three errors to score five times to retake the lead. The big hit of the inning for the Eagles was a bases loaded, two-run single by junior Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.).

ERAU continued to put runs on the board in each inning after the fifth to wrap up the game. The Eagles picked up a two-run home run from junior Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.), his third of the series, in the sixth before adding another run on a error in the seventh. ERAU put it away via the 10-run rule in the eighth when junior Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) singled in one run before junior Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) ended it with a single up the middle that scored Barragan.

Junior Mitchell Mussler (Clearwater, Fla.) picked up the win on the mound for Embry-Riddle, surrendering just one earned run on six hits over 7.2 innings, striking out seven.

Game 2

After scoring one in the first inning on a Strickler double, Embry-Riddle put six on the board in the second to take control of the game. With two down junior Gavin Botts (Lake Forest, Calif.) singled in the first run, and then scored on triple by Strickler. Barragan brought in Strickler with a single before Aguirre and Jepsen doubled and singled to plate two more. Junior Owen Cain (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) then singled, and a Park error on the play allowed another runner to score and make it 7-0 Eagles.

Another Buccaneer error led to a run in the fifth for ERAU before junior Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.) brought home another with a single in the sixth that made it 9-1. Park wound up scoring runs in each of the last three innings but could not overcome the Embry-Riddle advantage. Junior Aiden Vestbie (Reno, Nev.) started on the hill for the Eagles and picked up the victory, going 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out eight
