Box Score ESCODIDO, Calif. – A offense that had been on fire cooled considerably today, with the Embry-Riddle baseball team held to just one run in an 8-1 loss to Saint Katherine in the first of a three-game California Pacific Conference series.
After a pair of scoreless innings, Saint Katherine broke through for a pair of runs in the third on a two-run home run. The two-run bomb turned out to be the big weapon for the Firebirds as they added two-run shots in the fourth and fifth on their way to building an 8-0 lead.
Embry-Riddle could not get anything going offensively and was held to four hits over the first eight innings. The Eagles scratched across their lone run in the ninth when, with one away, juniors Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) singled to put a pair on. A walk loaded the bases for junior Owen Cain (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), who delivered a pinch-hit RBI single for the lone run of the day for ERAU.
