ERAU Splits First Two Games with La Sierra

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Embry-Riddle banged out 16 hits in the opening game of a California Pacific Conference baseball double header against La Sierra that led to a 10-4 victory for the Eagles. The Eagles came back to take a lead in game two as well, but its offense was shutdown in the final half of that contest as the Golden Eagles came back to capture a 14-8 win.

Game 1

La Sierra got the early upper hand in the first game, scoring twice in the first. The Eagles answered those runs in the top of the second, with junior Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) belting a two-run home run. Embry-Riddle then took the lead with single runs in the third and fourth on a sac flys by junior Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) and freshman Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.).

La Sierra crept back within one with a tally in the fifth, but ERAU answered again with an RBI single by junior Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) in the top of the eighth. The Golden Eagles added another run to make it a one-run game again in the bottom of the eighth before ERAU put it away with a five-run ninth, that started with a solo home run by Jepsen. With two away Murphy added an RBI double and then came around to score on a single by junior Calvin Solie (Buckeye, Ariz.). Senior Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) then capped off the rally with a two-run homer.

Junior Mitchell Mussler (Clearwater, Fla.) started and picked up the win, allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings. Freshman Noah Tschopp (Las Vegas, Nev.) set down the side 1-2-3 in the ninth for the Eagles.

Game 2

Embry-Riddle got off to a good start in game two, scoring twice in each of the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Murphy drove in a pair with a single in the second, with junior Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) hitting a two-run homer in the third and junior Josh Beattie (Lakewood, Colo.) adding a solo shot in the fourth as the Eagles built an 8-3 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.

La Sierra came back, however, and got to the ERAU bullpen for 11 runs on seven hits as they came back to score at least two runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth, putting the game out of reach with five runs in the eighth. After collecting seven hits over the first four innings the ERAU bats
