Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Embry-Riddle unleased a 17-hit attack and scored in six different innings as the Eagles took a 12-5 victory in the finale of a California Pacific Conference baseball series with La Sierra, giving ERAU the series win, two games to one. Junior Roberto Garza-Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) had a big day at the plate for the Eagles, going 5-for-5 with three doubles and a home run.
Embry-Riddle struck quickly in the game, with Garza-Nunez opening the scoring with the first of his doubles in the first inning, driving in a run. A sac fly from junior Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) completed the two-run inning for the Eagles.
After scoring another run in the second, Embry-Riddle plated three more in the third on a fielder's choice, an error, and Garza-Nunez's second double of the game. Three more in the fifth put ERAU in the driver's seat, with senior Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) tripling and scoring on a passed ball, junior Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) belting a solo home run, and Aguirre driving in his second run of the day with a single to left that made it 9-1.
La Sierra picked up two in the bottom of the fifth on a bases loaded single, but it would be as close as the Golden Eagle would get. Sophomore Eric Schumann (Mission Viejo, Calif.) started for Embry-Riddle and picked up the win, allowing three runs in five innings of work. Sophomore Jonah Montes (Upland, Calif.) and junior Tanner Moran (Mililani, Hawai'i) combined to throw three shutout innings out of the bullpen for the Eagles.
Garza-Nunez hit his home run, a two-run shot in the seventh, to ice the game for ERAU.
