Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle lost their first game of the day 6-3 to Oklahoma Panhandle State, but earned a come from behind extra inning win 10-9 over SAGU in the second at Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix on Saturday.
Game 1
ERAU had eight hits but were only able to manufacture three runs in their 6-3 loss to Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday afternoon.
In the first inning, the Aggies jumped out to a four run lead as they had four hits.
Embry-Riddle was able to manufacture one run in the top of the second inning. Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) was hit by a pitch and advanced to second when Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) walked. Both runners moved up when Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) was walked and the Eagles scored on a fielder's choice to make the score 3-1. Oklahoma Panhandle State added to their lead on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning and after two innings led 5-1.
Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) reached on an error to start the third inning for ERAU and then was able to steal second. He scored on a single by Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) to cut the Aggie lead to three.
After Oklahoma Panhandle State scored a run in the bottom of the 5th, Embry-Riddle got one back in the top of the 5th. Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) led off with a double and advanced to third and scored on wild pitches by the Aggies.
Eric Schumann (Mission Viejo, Calif.) got the start for Embry-Riddle. Spencer Lanz (Atwater, Calif.) pitched a solid four innings in his second appearance as an Eagle scattering three hits and striking out one. Jonah Montes (Upland, Calif.) pitched well in relief as he struck out four batters in his two innings of work and didn't give up any hits.
Game 2
Embry-Riddle was down again early in their second game of the day as the Warriors of SAGU scored four runs in the first inning.
ERAU started their comeback in the fourth inning when Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) led off the inning with a homerun. With one out, Owen Cain (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) hit a single. Following Cain, Sean Boskovich (Chino Hills, Calif.) was walked and then both Sawyer Amato (Littleton, Colo.) and Gavin Speck (Danville, Calif.) were hit by pitches to score the second Embry-Riddle run. The Eagles scored a third run on a fielder's choice to make the score 4-3 heading to the bottom half of the inning.
After the Warriors got a run back in the bottom of the 4th, Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) started the top of the 5th with a single followed by a double from Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.). Both Murphy and Strickler scored on another Barragan hit to tie the game at 5-5. ERAU took their first lead of the day on a Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) homerun as the Eagles led 7-5.
SAGU tied the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the 5th and took a 9-7 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning. In the last chance for Embry-Riddle Strickler hit a one out double followed by another single from Barragan. Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) played both Barragan and Strickler on a single of his own and Fedoruk hit a double to score Jepsen and give ERAU a 10-9 lead. Embry-Riddle retired SAGU in order in the bottom half of the winning and went on to win 10-9.
The Eagles will head out to California this week to play at the Masters on Friday and Saturday with doubleheaders both days beginning at 12pm and 3pm.
