Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle hit the ball well today in Santa Clarita, Calif. but the Master's University took both games from the Eagles by scores of 13-5 and 6-3.
ERAU out hit the Master's University, but couldn't string enough hits together as they lost the first game of the day 13-5.
In the top of the first inning both Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and Roberto Garza-Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) hit singles, but they were stranded at first and third as the Eagle half of the inning ended. The Master's scored one on a solo homerun and held a 1-0 lead after the first.
Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) started the 2nd inning with a single and Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) followed with a single as well. Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) knocked in Aguirre with a single and ERAU tied the score 1-1. Masters hit another homerun in the bottom of the second and took a 2-1 lead into the third.
Barragan had his second hit of the day in the third inning, this time he hit a double. He scored on a Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) single and once again the Eagles and Mustangs were tied 2-2.
In the 5th inning, Embry-Riddle took the lead 3-2. Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) hit a double and stole third. Garza-Nunez then came up with his second hit of the day as he singled to center field and Strickler was able to score. The ERAU lead didn't last long as the Mustangs scored two in the bottom of the 5th to take a 4-3 lead after five innings of play.
Each team scored another in the 6th inning. For Embry-Riddle, Izaguirre Jr. and Murphy were walked and with two outs Gavin Botts (Lake Forest, Calif.) hit a single to score another run for the Eagles.
Embry-Riddle didn't score again until the top of the 9th, but the Master's added one run in the 7th inning and 6 runs in the 8th which was too much for the Eagles to come back from.
Aiden Vestbie (Reno, Nev.) started for ERAU and pitched four innings only giving up two runs on four hits as he struck out six Mustangs.
Game 2
In the second game of the day, Embry-Riddle led but The Master's University came back with five late runs in the bottom of the 6th as they won the game 6-3.
Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) started the second game of the day with a double, but that was all the Eagles would get in the top of the 1st inning. Mitchell Mussler (Clearwater, Fla.) retired the Mustang side in order in the first inning.
With one out, Javier Izaguirre (Riverside, Calif.) continued his good hitting day with a single and then Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.) hit his first homerun of the season and Embry-Riddle took a 2-0 lead.
The Master's got one run back on one hit in the bottom of the third inning and the score was 2-1 Eagles heading into the fourth inning.
The score didn't change until the 6th inning as Embry-Riddle added to their lead in the top half. Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) led off the inning with a single. After Calvin Solie (Buckeye, Ariz.) sacrifice bunted him over to 2nd, Murphy was able to advance to third and score on a wild pitch.
In the bottom half of the 6th inning, the Master's scored five runs on four hits as they took the game 6-3.
Mussler pitched well for Embry-Riddle giving up one run on two hits and striking out four in his five innings of work.
Embry-Riddle will play a double header again tomorrow against the Master's with the first game starting at 12pm.
