Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle won two out of three games against Antelope Valley this weekend which marks the first time the Eagles have won a series with the Pioneers as the teams split today in Lancaster.
Game 1
Embry-Riddle used timely hitting as the Eagles went on to win game one of the double header against Antelope Valley 6-3.
After UAV took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, ERAU was able to tie it back up in the top of the 4th. Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) was able to reach first on an error and then stole second to move into scoring position. One batter later, Calvin Solie (Buckeye, Ariz.) hit a single which allowed Jepsen to score tying the game at 1-1.
The Pioneers retook the lead with a run in the bottom of the 4th as they went up 2-1.
Embry-Riddle added three more runs in the top of the 5th inning on three hits. Solie reached first as he was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single by Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.). The next Eagle batter, Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) followed with a single to score Solie and advance Strickler to 2nd. Kaden Menard (Meridian, Idaho) came in to pinch run for Izaguirre Jr. and he and Strickler immediately moved up a base each. Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) came through with a single and picked up two RBIs to give ERAU the 4-2 lead.
Jepsen led off the 6th inning with a solo homerun, but the Pioneers also got a run back in the 6th. Heading into the 7th inning, the score was 5-3 Eagles.
Neither team scored again until Embry-Riddle added an insurance run in the top of the 9th inning when Solie had another single and then stole second. Solie scored on a single by Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) and ERAU went on to win 6-3.
Mitchell Mussler (Clearwater, Fla.) earned the win as he pitched six innings giving up just six hits. Jesse Kaphing (Phoenix, Ariz.) pitched two innings in relief and Jonah Montes (Upland, Calif.) earned the save.
Game 2
Embry-Riddle jumped in front of Antelope Valley right away in the second game of the double header but a seven run 6th inning for the Pioneers helped them take game three 13-11.
Strickler began the game with a triple and scored on a groundout by Murphy. Barragan doubled the ERAU lead with a homerun and after the top of the 1st inning, the Eagles led 2-0.
Embry-Riddle added three more runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.) started with a single. Following Moore, Gavin Botts (Lake Forest, Calif.) reached on an error and Moore advanced to second. Both runners moved up a base on a fly out by Strickler and scored on a double by Murphy to pick up his 2nd and 3rd RBIs of the game. Barragan then had his second hit of the game and Murphy was able to score on the throw to make the score 5-0 Eagles after the top of the second inning.
After UAV scored three runs in the bottom of the 4th inning on four hits, Embry-Riddle was able to get two of the runs back in the top of the 5th. Murphy, Barragan, and Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) all walked to load the bases. Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) then came up and hit a double to score both Barragan and Murphy. ERAU led by four with the score 7-3.
The Pioneers added two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, seven runs in the bottom of the 6th and one in the 7th as UAV took a 13-7 lead.
ERAU battled back with four runs in the top of the ninth as Owen Cain (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) hit a three run homerun and Botts doubled in Moore but the Eagles comeback came up short as UAV won 13-11.
Embry-Riddle will be in Prescott next weekend for a four game series against the Golden Eagles of La Sierra on Thursday and Friday.
