Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle split their first two games in Fullerton as they lost to the Royals of Hope International 9-2 before completing a comeback after being down 7-0 to win 10-9 over British Columbia.
Game 1
Unlike last weekend. Embry-Riddle struggled to hit in their first game in Fullerton on Friday morning in a 9-2 loss to Hope International.
The Royals got a run right away in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the bottom of the second to take a 3-0 lead.
ERAU answered back in the top of the third inning with two runs of their own to make the score 3-2. After Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) was walked, Gavin Botts (Lake Forest, Calif.) was hit by a pitch, and Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) loaded the bases when he was walked. Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) then hit a single to left field to earn two RBIS but that was all the Eagles would get.
Hope International added another run in the 4th inning, 4 runs in the 6th, and another in the 8th on their way to the win.
Game 2
Embry-Riddle was down 7-0 early but came back to defeat British Columbia 10-9.
In the bottom of the first inning, Embry-Riddle had two runners on base but were unable to knock one in keeping the score at 0-0.
In the top of the second, the Thunderbirds answered with two runs on three hits as they took the early 2-0 lead.
UBC added to their lead in the top of third inning as they took advantage of a few defensive miscues by ERAU. British Columbia scored four runs on one hit and took a 6-0 lead after the top of the third inning.
Embry-Riddle got their first hit in the bottom of the third as Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) hit a double to left field but the Eagles couldn't get anything going as they trailed after three innings of play.
After the Thunderbirds added a run in the top of the 4th, Roberto Garza-Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) put the Eagles on the board with a solo homerun. Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) followed with a single and advanced to second on a groundout. Jepsen scored on a single by Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.). ERAU loaded the bases and got a third run when a sac fly by Strickler was deep enough to score Izaguirre Jr. Embry-Riddle scored another run on an error and after four innings of play the score was 7-4 with the Thunderbirds leading.
Parker Cadacio (Cypress, Calif.) pitched a quick one, two, three inning in the top of the 5th for ERAU. Garza-Nunez started the bottom of the 5th with a single followed by a Jepsen walk to put runners at first and second for the Eagles. Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) then hit a double down the left field line to bring Embry-Riddle within a run at 7-6. Aguirre advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a wild pitch to bring the score to 7-7. With the bases clear, Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) walked and then Calvin Solie (Buckeye, Ariz.) hit a single. With runners at first and second, Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) reached on an error to load the bases. Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) hit a two out single to score two runs and then Garza-Nunez had another single in the inning as Embry-Riddle took a 10-7 lead to the 6th inning.
ERAU took their lead into the top of the 7th inning. UBC got two runs to make the score 10-9 and had the bases loaded but Embry-Riddle and pitcher Noah Tschopp (Las Vegas, Nev.) got out of the jam as the Eagles completed the comeback.
