Box Score 2 Yesterday the Embry-Riddle offense had an outburst and the Eagles followed up that performance with even more hits and runs scored today as ERAU won game one against the Golden Eagles 18-10 and game two 28-4.
Game 1
Embry-Riddle was down late in the game but a four run 7th inning and 7 run 8th inning propelled the Eagles to another win.
After Eagle pitcher Eric Schumann (Mission Viejo, Calif.) sat down the Golden Eagles in order in the top of the first. Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) started off the game with a solo homerun and ERAU took an early 1-0 lead. Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) then singled and was able to score on a fielder's choice later in the inning. Embry-Riddle led 2-0 after one inning.
La Sierra was able to score four runs in the top of the 3rd inning. The Eagles got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Strickler scored again. After hitting a leadoff double, Strickler advanced to third on a balk and scored on a single from Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.). After three innings, LSU led 4-3.
ERAU scored two more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning after the Golden Eagles added to their lead by scored three in the top of the inning. Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.) led off the bottom of the 4th with a double and then both Strickler and Murphy were walked. A single by Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) brought in both Moore and Strickler.
Both teams scored two runs in the 6th inning and ERAU's was scored once again by Strickler. He was walked to start the inning and then stole both 2nd base and 3rd base. He scored on an error. When Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) hit a single, Murphy who had walked again also scored and after six innings of play La Sierra still led 9-7.
Moore led off the bottom of the 7th with another hit, this time a single and then once again Strickler was walked. Murphy came up next and hit a triple which scored both Moore and Strickler and tied the game 9-9. Barragan knocked in Murphy on a single and scored on a double by Jepsen and Embry-Riddle retook the lead 11-9.
The Eagles scored seven more runs in the bottom of the 8th inning as they went on to win the game 18-10.
Jonah Montes (Upland, Calif.) earned the win for the Eagles as he pitched two solid innings giving up no hits and striking out two.
Strickler finished the game 2-2 with six runs scored, Murphy was 3-4 with four runs and three RBIs, Barragan was 3-4 with five RBIs, Jepsen was 3-6 with two doubles and five RBIs, and Moore finished 4-5 with two doubles.
Game 2
A 19 run second inning helped the Eagles coast to their game two 28-4 win in seven innings.
In the first inning, Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) doubled in Strickler and ERAU led 1-0 after one inning of play.
The bottom of the 2nd inning was the different maker as Embry-Riddle had 13 hits in the inning. In the inning, Owen Cain (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) had a single and two doubles, Strickler had a double and a single, Izaguirre Jr. had a double and a triple, and Jepsen had two doubles.
ERAU added six more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, one in the 4th, and one in the 5th. The Golden Eagles scored one each in the 4th and 5th and then added two more runs in the top of the 7th inning.
Spencer Lanz (Atwater, Calif.) was the winning pitcher in the second game for Embry-Riddle.
Strickler was once again 2-2 with three runs scored and three RBIs, Izaguirre, Jr. finished the game 3-4 with six RBIs, Barragan was 3-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored, Jepsen was 4-6, and Gavin Botts (Lake Forest, Calif.) was 5-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs.
Embry-Riddle will play again on Wednesday at Eagles Baseball Field against Hastings at 2pm.
