Box Score Embry-Riddle scored seven runs in the 3rd inning on their way to a 17-7 win over Hastings College at Eagle Baseball Field in Prescott on Monday afternoon.
After the Broncos went up 2-0, ERAU answered with a big third inning. Owen Cain (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) got the inning going with a triple and scored on a single by Sawyer Amato (Littleton, Colo.). Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) was then walked to put runners on first and second. Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) then hit a double and both Strickler and Amato scored. A double by Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) followed made the score 4-2. A double by Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) then brought in Barragan and Roberto Garza-Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) who had reached on being hit by a pitch. Embry-Riddle scored another run on a single by Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) and when Cain came up again and reached on an error, Jepsen scored and after 3 innings of play, the Eagles led 7-2.
ERAU extended their lead in the 4th inning as Garza-Nunez reached on a walk and scored on another double by Jepsen.
In the 5th inning, Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.) led off with a walk and was able advance to third as Amato reached on an error. Strickler hit a double and both Amato and Moore were able to score and after five innings, Embry-Riddle led Hastings 10-2.
Hastings scored five runs in the top of the 6th inning, but ERAU added four more to their score in the bottom half of the inning. Aguirre hit a double followed by a single by Cain. Aguirre scored on a double by Moore and with Cain at 3rd base and Moore at 2nd, Strickler hit a three run homerun to make the score 14-7 Eagles.
Embry-Riddle added three more runs in the bottom of the 7th on Jepsen's third double of the day and a triple by Aguirre.
Eric Schumann (Mission Viejo, Calif.) earned the win for ERAU on the mound.
Embry-Riddle will travel to Redding this week as they play at Simpson University to continue Cal Pac play.
