Box Score After going down 7-0, Embry-Riddle tried to make a comeback against Benedictine Mesa, but came up one run short as they lost 7-6 to the RedHawks in Prescott on Friday afternoon.
Benedictine Mesa scored six runs in the top of the second and added another in the top of the third inning as they led 7-0.
Embry-Riddle got three runs back in the bottom of the 3rd inning on four hits. Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) continued his hitting streak with a single to start the Eagle rally. A double by Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) brought home Strickler and made the score 7-1. Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) both followed with doubles and after three innings, ERAU trailed 7-3.
The Eagles added another run in the bottom of the 4th inning. Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) hit a double and was able to score when Strickler reached on an error to make the score 7-4 after four innings.
Neither team scored for the next four innings and as the game headed into the bottom of the 9th, ERAU still trailed 7-4. Pinch hitter Roberto Garza Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) reached first on an error. His pinch runner Calvin Solie (Buckeye, Ariz.) advanced to third on a failed pickoff throw and scored on a single by Murphy. Following Murphy, Strickler hit another single to put runners on first and second. A great sac bunt by Izaguirre Jr. put the runners on second and third. The RedHawks then intentionally walked Barragan to load the bases. ERAU scored their second run of the inning on a fielder's choice, but that was all the Eagles could get as they lost 7-6.
Embry-Riddle and Benedictine Mesa will play a double header Saturday with the first game beginning at 11am at Eagle Baseball Field.
