Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle earned a 3-0 shutout victory before falling 9-3 in the second game of their double header with Park-Gilbert on Friday at Arizona Athletic Grounds.
Game 1
Cole Altherr (Tucson, Ariz.) pitched a complete game shutout as the Eagles won the first game of the day 3-0.
ERAU got on the board in the 5th inning with two hits. Both Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) and Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) hit doubles for the Eagles. Strickler started with a double down the left field line and a batter later Barragan doubled down the right field line to bring in his 60th RBI of the season.
Embry-Riddle scored two more runs in the top of the 8th inning. Roberto Garza-Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) hit a single to right field followed by a double to left center by Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.). Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) then also hit a double to plate Jepsen and the Eagles held on for the 3-0 win.
Altherr struck out 12 batters and only allowed four Buccaneers to get hits.
Game 2
ERAU got on the board right away in game two of the day as Strickler was able to score on a groundout by Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.).
The Buccaneers however answered with two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, three in the 3rd, and three more runs in the 4th as they took a 9-1 lead.
Embry-Riddle tried to comeback as both Barragan and Jepsen hit homeruns in the top of the 5th inning, but their comeback efforts weren't enough as the Eagles dropped the second game 9-3.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow in Mesa at Arizona Athletic Grounds with the first pitch at 11am.
