Box Score Embry-Riddle used ten different pitchers in the 18-6 win against Hastings College on Wednesday at Eagle Baseball Field in Prescott.
The high scoring ERAU offense was right back at it as they scored 6 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 6-0 lead over the Broncos.
Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) got the inning started with a single and last week's NAIA Baseball Player of the Week Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) followed with a single. Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) drew a walk to load the bases. Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) then hit a single to score both Izaguirre Jr. and Barragan. Roberto Garza-Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) also hit a single and then Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) hit a three run home run for the Eagles.
Embry-Riddle added one run in the bottom of the third inning as Fedoruk reached first on an error. Courtesy runner Kaden Menard (Meridian, Idaho) advanced to second on a single from Gavin Botts (Lake Forest, Calif.). Menard scored on a sacrifice fly by Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) and after three innings, ERAU led 7-0.
After Hastings scored one run in the top of the 4th, the Eagles added five in the bottom half of the inning. Barragan led off for ERAU with a double and advanced to third on another single by Jepsen. Both Garza-Nunez and Fedoruk walked to load the bases. Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) then hit a double down which scored all three bases runners. Murphy was able to score on a double by Strickler and after 4 innings the score was 12-1.
The Broncos scored two runs in the top of the 5th, but a solo shot by Izaguirre Jr. to lead off the bottom of the inning gave Embry-Riddle one run back right away.
Hastings scored two more in the 6th inning and ERAU finished off their scoring with five more runs in the bottom of the 8th. With one out, Fedoruk doubled to center field for the Eagles followed by a walk from Calvin Solie (Buckeye, Ariz.). Murphy then hit his second double of the day and each baserunner moved up two spots. Izaguirre Jr. reached base again this time on a walk to load the bases for Barragan. Barragan hit a grand slam to make the score 18-5. The Broncos scored one more run in the top of the 9th, but the Eagles came away with the win.
Embry-Riddle will host Saint Katherine's this weekend as they play at 2pm on Friday as Cal Pac play continues.
