Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle lost a pair of one run games in Irvine on Friday as the Westcliff Warriors won game one 5-4 and the second game 1-0.
Game 1
Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) knocked in his 68th RBI in the first inning with a single that scored Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) who had walked and stole second. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead after the top of the 1st.
Westcliff answered with three runs in the bottom half of the 1st inning to take a 3-1 advantage.
The Warriors added two more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning as they held a 5-1 lead after four innings of play.
ERAU answered with one run in the top of the 5th. Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) led off the inning with a single. His pinch runner Kaden Menard (Meridian, Idaho) stole second and came around to score on another single by Barragan to bring the score to 5-2.
The Eagles scored two more runs in the top of the 8th inning as Owen Cain (Rancho Cucamongo, Calif.) led off with a triple. Cain came around to score on a defensive error that allowed Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.) to reach 1st base. A single by Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) moved Moore over to 3rd and put runners on the corners. Moore scored on a fielder's choice and brought ERAU within one run with the score 5-4. Unfortunately for the Eagles, that was all they would get as Westcliff won game one 5-4.
Game 2
The second game of the day proved to be a pitchers dual between the Warriors Eddie Rios and Embry-Riddle's Jesse Kaphing (Phoenix, Ariz.).
Westcliff scored one run in the bottom of the 3rd inning and that one run proved to be all the Warriors needed as they won the game 1-0.
Kaphing allowed just five hits in his seven innings of work and Jonah Montes (Upland, Calif.) pitched a 1-2-3 inning in relief.
Strickler finished the game 2-3 with a single and a double.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow at Cypress College with the first pitch scheduled for 2pm.
