Box Score In game three against the Warriors of Westcliff, Embry-Riddle took an early lead and never looked back as the Eagles won 12-6 on Saturday afternoon at Cypress College.
Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) got things going for ERAU with a solo homerun in the top of the 1st inning.
Barragan picked up his second RBI on a sacrifice fly that brought home Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.). Murphy reached base with a single down the left field line and then stole second base. Embry-Riddle scored two more runs in the top of the 2nd on a double by Roberto Garza-Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) that scored Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) and Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.). After the top of the second, the Eagles led 4-0.
Westcliff scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and another in the bottom of the 3rd, but ERAU answered with four runs on five hits in the top of the 4th. Izaguirre Jr. started things with a single to left field and then stole second to get into scoring position. Garza-Nunez singled to left center to plate Izaguirre Jr. With runners on first and second, Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) hit a single down the left field line that Garza-Nunez was able to score on and make the score 6-3 in favor of the Eagles. Following Fedoruk's single, Jacob Aguirre (La Verne, Calif.) hit a single that scored both base runners and put Embry-Riddle ahead 8-3.
In the top of the 5th inning, ERAU added three more runs to their lead as Barragan hit his second homerun of the day, this time a two run shot over the center field fence. Garza-Nunez came around to score for the Eagles third run of the inning after he reached on a walk, moved to second on a passed ball, and scored on a single by Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.).
The Warriors added two unearned runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to make the score 11-5.
A sacrifice fly by Murphy brought in another run as Calvin Solie (Buckeye, Ariz.) earned a pinch hit walk and moved over to third on a single by Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.).
Embry-Riddle held on for the 12-6 win and the Eagles move to 11-7 in Cal Pac play.
Spencer Lanz (Atwater, Calif.) pitched well for Embry-Riddle as he threw 4.1 innings, giving up just three runs, and striking out two. Jonah Montes (Upland, Calif.) came in in relief and pitched 2.2 innings. Montes struck out three batters and didn't give up any earned runs. Noah Tschopp (Las Vegas, Nev.) pitched the final two innings of the game for the Eagles.
ERAU will play in Prescott on Tuesday as the Spirit from OUAZ come up to Eagle Baseball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
