Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle erupted for 45 runs on their way to two run rule victories winning the first game at Eagle Baseball Field 20-0 and the second 25-6 over the Seabeggars from Providence Christian.
Game 1
Cole Altherr (Tucson, Ariz.) earned the 7 inning shutout win in the first game as he gave up just three hits and struck out 12 batters.
Embry-Riddle got on the board in the second inning with three runs. Roberto Garza-Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) led off the inning with a single to centerfield. Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) followed with a single of his own to put runners at first and second. With two outs, Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.) hit a double to centerfield that brought home both base runners. Following Moore, Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) hit a single to score Moore and put the Eagles up 3-0.
A solo homerun by Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) put ERAU on top 4-0 in the 4th.
Owen Cain (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) made the score 5-0 with another Eagle homerun as he hit a solo shot that cleared the left field fence to start the 4th inning.
In the 5th inning, Embry-Riddle scored 11 runs on 10 hits. Garza-Nunez hit a two run homerun, Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) hit a two run double, Barragan hit a double, Jepsen hit a double, and Cain hit a triple for the Eagles. At the end of five innings, Embry-Riddle led 16-0.
ERAU added four more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning as the Eagles took game one 20-0.
Game 2
Starting where they left off after the first game, Embry-Riddle scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick lead over Providence Christian.
Strickler hit for the cycle in the second game of the day. He started the game with a double to center field in the 1st inning, hit a single in the 3rd inning, a three run homerun in the 5th inning, and a bases clearing triple in the 6th inning. Strickler had six RBIs in the game.
Murphy finished game two 2-3 with three runs scored.
Gavin Botts (Lake Forest, Calif.) was 5-6 with four RBIs and four runs scored. Botts hit his first collegiate homerun in the game.
Barragan finished the second game 3-6 as he hit two homeruns and had five RBIs.
ERAU went on to win the second game of the day 25-6 over the Seabeggars in 7 innings.
Jesse Kaphing (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned the win on the mound pitching five innings. Zach Sharp (Olympia, Wash.) and Alec Hagopian (Danville, Calif.) both came in in relief. Sharp struck out two batters and Hagopian one as neither gave up a run.
Embry-Riddle and Providence Christian will play the final game of the series tomorrow with the first pitch at 12pm. ERAU will be honoring the team's seniors at 11:30am at Eagle Baseball Field.
