Box Score Embry-Riddle scored seven runs in both the 5th inning and in the 7th inning on their way to a 14-3 win over the Warriors of SAGU at Eagle Baseball Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors went ahead in the 2nd inning with a solo homerun and their starting pitcher kept the Eagles at bay until the bottom of the 5th inning.
With one out, Sawyer Amato (Littleton, Colo.) was walked and then Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.) followed with a single to put runners on first and second. Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.) then hit a double to tie the score at 1-1. The next batter, Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) reached on an error and Murphy was able to score on the error to give ERAU the 2-1 lead. A single by Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) brought home Strickler. With runners at first and second, Roberto Garza-Nunez was walked to load the bases. Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) delivered the big hit of the inning as he hit a grand slam to put Embry-Riddle up 7-1.
SAGU scored another run in the top of the 6th inning, but the Eagles answered with seven more runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Barragan and Garza-Nunez were both walked to start the inning and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. A single to centerfield by Jepsen brought home both runners and made the score 9-2. Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) then hit a single and Calvin Solie (Buckeye, Ariz.) was walked to load the bases. Amato earned an RBI as he reached when he was hit by a pitch. Pinch hitter Gavin Speck (Danville, Calif.) cleared the bases with a triple to the right field fence. Speck came around to score on a wild pitch and the score was 14-2 ERAU after 7 innings.
The Warriors scored one more run in the top of the 9th inning, but Embry-Riddle had the game in hand as the Eagles won 14-3.
Spencer Lanz (Atwater, Calif.) earned the win for ERAU on the mound as he pitched six innings giving up just four hits. Jepsen finished the game with 6 RBIs.
Embry-Riddle will be off this weekend and play again on Tuesday, April 9th in Surprise against OUAZ.
