At the California Pacific Baseball Tournament Banquet held in conjunction with the Conference Tournament which begins on Wednesday, the conference announced the 2024 season awards and quite a few Eagles were honored.
The Player of the Year award went to Travis Strickler (Glendale, Ariz.). Strickler the 2022 Cal Pac Newcomer of the Year and a three-time First Team selection, fashioned another outstanding season at the plate. The senior outfielder from Glendale, Ariz., led the Cal Pac in Runs (71), Triples (8), and tied for first in Stolen Bases (23). He was 2nd in Hits (74), Runs Batted In (46), On Base Percentage (.507), Slugging Percentage (.796), Total Bases (144), and Doubles (27—the second most all time). His .409 batting average ranked 4th in the conference, as did his nine home runs.
Drew Barragan (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) was named the Cal Pac Defensive Player of the year. Barragan, put together one of the most impressive offensive single seasons in Cal Pac history. In addition to leading the conference with 130 assists with a .938 Fielding Percentage, the 2023 Newcomer of the Year not only led the Cal Pac in five offensive categories, he set new all-time records in four of them: Batting Average (.452—tied for the all-time best)), Runs Batted In (86—40 more than the second highest this season), Total Bases (160), and Doubles (29). He led the nation in hits (84), RBIs, and doubles. Also, Barragan led the conference in Slugging Percentage (.860), was 2nd in Runs (53), and Home Runs (15), and ranked 3rd in On Base Percentage (.505).
Earning 1st Team All-Cal Pac Honors was Blake Moore (San Ramon, Calif.), Drew Barragan, Travis Strickler, and Jonah Montes (Upland, Calif.).
Miles Murphy (Goodyear, Ariz.), Gavin Botts (Lake Forest, Calif.), Kevin Fedoruk (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), Roberto Garza-Nunez (Salinas, Calif.) and Cole Altherr (Tucson, Ariz.) were all named to the All-Cal Pac Honorable Mention Team.
Embry-Riddle dominated the Cal Pac All-Defensive Team. Fedoruk was named the team's catcher, Javier Izaguirre Jr. (Riverside, Calif.) 1st base, Barragan the shortstop, Strickler earned the honors in left field, Luke Jepsen (Temecula, Calif.) the right fielder, and Montes the pitcher.
Fedoruk and Strickler were also named to the Cal Pac All-Academic team for their work both on the field and in the classroom during the 2024 season.
Embry-Riddle's Champion of Character is Gavin Speck. The Champion of Character award goes to one player from each team who best displays the NAIA's five core values.
ERAU will take the field tomorrow at 12:30pm against Simpson University in the first round of the Cal Pac Tournament played at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa.
