Prescott - The Embry-Riddle softball team split with the Vanguards Lions today at their second home set of the season.The Eagles were able to pull out a victory during the game one nail biter. The Lions struck first scoring one in the 2nd inning on a single shot over center field fence by Kaitlin Estes and one in the 4th on another homerun, this time by Britany Heinle. The Eagles were able to answer back in the bottom of the 4th on a long ball by Katey Moore.
With The Eagles down by one in the bottom of the 6th, they were able to capitalize on a pitching change by the Lions. Starting pitcher Olvera was replaced by Tonini, who struggled to find the strike zone, walking in two runs. The Eagles were able to score three in the bottom of the 6th to make the game 4-2. With the Lions last chance in the top of the 7th, they came back on five singles in row and seven in the inning, scoring four runs. But the lead change did not faze The Eagles that were able to come back in the bottom of the 7th and score four singles, including the walk-off single by Kaila Provost to score Hannah De Luna.
In game two, The Eagles were not able to fashion a comeback like they did in game one. The Lions once again scored first, scoring one run in the 1st and three in the 3rd. The Eagles only runs of the game came in the bottom of the 5th on a three-run homerun by Hannah De Luna to score LiAnn Ruth and Kaila Romero. The Lions were able to tack on two more runs to finish the game, one in the 6th and one in the 7th to end the game 3-6.
The Eagles will face San Diego Christian this Friday at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM in their third date of a four game home stand. GO EAGLES!
