TUCSON, Ariz. Beginning a weekend trip in Tucson at the Tucson Invitational, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) softball team split a pair of games. Valley City State (N.D.) pinned a 7-2 loss on the Eagles in game one before the ERAU offense scored early and often against Mayville State (N.D.) in an 8-1 victory for Embry-Riddle.
Game 1Valley City State (17-5) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in game one. The Vikings got things going early, taking advantage of a pair of errors to score four unearned runs in the first. With runners on first and third an error on an attempted steal led to the first run, with Kadie Anderson later adding a two-run single with the bases loaded to make it 4-0. In the fifth the Vikings added three more, with Anderson coming up with a two-run double to highlight the inning.
Embry-Riddle (14-10) picked up a pair of runs in the sixth, with junior
Katey Moore (Pleasanton, Calif.) and senior
Kaila Romero (Lancaster, Calif.) getting RBI singles in the frame when the Eagles three of their five hits in the contest.
Game 2Embry-Riddle saw its offense come to life early against Mayville State (6-11) as the Eagles scored multiple runs in each of the first three innings. In the first freshman
Haley Basye (Tucson, Ariz.) opened the scoring with a double to center, with Moore adding a sac fly to make it 2-0. In the second two more came across, with freshman
Zoe Streadbeck (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) delivering a two-out, two-run single. Three more came home in the third, thanks in part to a pair of errors. With the bases loaded Romero stroked a base hit to right to plate two, with the second error of the inning allowing the Eagles' seventh run to score.
Junior
Lani Kaleikini (San Francisco, Calif.) was in control all the way in the circle for ERAU, going all the way for the Eagles, allowing just four hits and striking out four to record the victory. The only run she allowed was a leadoff home run to AJ Tinoco in the sixth.
