TORRANCE, Calif. After seeing California Marymount stage a comeback to win game one of a California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) softball doubleheader, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) came back to win game two with solid and a 10-hit attack to gain the split. The Eagles dropped game 1, 8-7, before coming back to take the second game, 8-2. Senior
Olivia Ramos (Phoenix, Ariz.) pitched a complete game to pick up the win in the second game for EARU, with senior
Daisy Hatcher-Taylor (Bakersfield, Calif.) leading the offense with three RBI.
Game 1Embry-Riddle (20-17, 3-7 Cal Pac) took an early lead in game one but could not hold on in the end as Marymount California (13-31, 6-10 Cal Pac) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to win it.
After both teams scored a run in the first, the Eagles pushed across six in the second. The Eagles batted around in the inning, banging out five hits as they took a 7-1 lead. Junior
Bailey Critchlow (Stockton, Utah) opened the scoring in the inning with an RBI single, with junior
LiAnn Ruth (Glendale, Ariz.) following with another run-scoring hit to make it 3-1. A passed ball and an error led to two more runs before Hatcher-Taylor doubled with two away to bring in two more to make it 7-1.
In the fourth Marymount California came up with a big inning, making it a one-run game with five-run outburst. After scoring twice on a ground out and an error, the Mariners picked up a bases loaded walk before Johnie Crotez delivered a two-run single that made it 7-6.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh when MCU took advantage of an error to put a runner at second with two away. A single tied the game before Amanda Guillen doubled down the line in left to bring in the winning run.
Game 2Embry-Riddle scored single runs in the first on a fielder's choice, and in the third on an error to go up 2-0, a lead it would not give up the entire game. The Eagles then took advantage of a pair of errors in the fourth to score twice more to go up 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth Marymount California got two runs back on a two-run double by Morgan Moczygemba, but it would be all that Ramos would allow for the game. After the fourth Ramos allowed just two more hits and finished with a five-hit complete game, striking out three.
Embry-Riddle put the game away in the sixth, scoring four times. The Eagles loaded the bases on a double and two singles for Hatcher-Taylor, who singled to right-center. An error allowed all three runners to score, pushing the ERAU lead to 7-2. Another error later allowed Hatcher-Taylor to sore the final run of the inning as the Eagles went on to take the victory.
