Late Inning Woes Cost Eagles Two Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – Once again late innings cost Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) both games of their double header with Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) losing 5-4 and 4-0 giving up all nine runs in the final three innings of each game.

With the exception of a Haley Basye (SO/Tucson, Ariz.) solo shot in the second both ERAU (3-11) and LTU (8-0) were stunned by both starting pitchers combing for a single run and seven hits. Basye would stir the pot again in the top of the sixth driving in Aleena Alexander (FR/Tucson, Ariz.) and Mikendra Kramar (SO/Livermore, Calif.) on a single followed by an RBI by Danielle Jamieson (FR/Tucson, Ariz.) to get the lead to 4-0. The Blue Devils would come right back in the bottom half of the inning to score three. ERAU was blanked in the top of the seventh to set up a walkoff double by Audra Malburg to steal the win in game one.

It was the Sydney Schultz show in game two as the Blue Devil shutout the Eagles in game two. It was quite the pitchers' dual as Carly Carlsen (JR/Littleton, Colo.) had six strikeouts of her own coming into the deciding fifth inning. LTU would add all four of the runs in the inning and left the Eagles in quite the hole with only nine outs remaining. Carlsen kept her head down and ended the game with 10 punch outs although it wasn't enough to keep the Eagles in it.

ERAU struggled with the sticks Sunday and it showed as they went a combined 10-49 at the dish. Both Mikaeli Davidson (FR/Tempe, Ariz.) and Carlsen threw well in the first four innings by not allowing a run but the final three innings proved difficult for both.

Riddle is once again at it bright and early against Saint Ambrose (Iowa) at 7:00 am MST on Monday (3/11) morning then will take on Indiana Tech at 9:15 am MST
