Basye's Two Dingers Power ERAU to Sweep of Benedictine

CHANDLER. Ariz. – Inching that much closer to a first time appearance in the California Pacific Conference Softball Championships is Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) after a dominant sweep of Benedictine-Mesa powered by Haley Basye (SO/Tucson, Ariz.)'s two homeruns in their Cal Pac double header Saturday, 7-1 and 11-6.

A one out single by Elyssa Bramer (JR/Lancaster, Calif.) is how the first inning festivities started for the Eagles (14-16, 8-2 Cal Pac). After stealing second with two outs, Bramer was brought in by Aleena Alexander (FR/Tucson, Ariz.)'s single. Basye then added a double to keep things rolling for ERAU. A costly error by the Redhawks (9-29, 3-9 Cal Pac) allowed both Alexander and Basye to score. Two consecutive doubles by Danielle Jamieson (FR/Tucson, Ariz.) and Carly Carlsen (JR/Littleton, Colo.) added two more before Carlsen would score on the next play.

Mikaeli Davidson (FR/Tempe, Ariz.) utilized the big inning to her advantage, although she only needed two runs to get the win in this one. The Cal Pac Pitcher of the Week dominated the Redhawks in game one allowing only two hits and an unearned run in her complete game. Riddle added the seventh run of the game in the second inning on another Alexander RBI single. Davidson allowed the only run in the seventh when the game was all but over.

ERAU didn't score the rest of game one but they had plenty of offense in the tank for game two. After a quick first, the Eagles would scratch across three in the second. Basye and Davidson led off the inning with back-back singles before Carlsen hit Basye in on a single to left-center. In the next at bat, Jamieson's double plated both Carlsen and Davidson before the inning would end.

ERAU would take on two more in the top of the third after Bramer doubled and Basye brought her home on a two-run dinger (3). Basye would lead off a six run fifth with another a solo shot (4), followed by six hits and five more runs to extend their lead to 11-2. ERAU gave up the final four runs of the game in the bottom half of the inning but the Eagles won 11-6.

Basye was dominant at the dish on Saturday, hitting 6-8 with four runs, five RBI, two doubles and two home runs. Carlsen was great at the dish as well finishing with four hits, two runs and three RBI.

ERAU will be right back at it on Sunday with the same opponent at 12:00 pm PDT and a chance to get that much closer to a Cal Pac Championship semi-final spot.
