Eagles Open Series With Doubleheader Sweep

PRESCOTT, AZ – The Embry-Riddle softball team continued its Cal Pac dominance with a sweep on Antelope Valley on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles scored eight runs in each game, and limited the Pioneers to just two runs and seven hits between the two contests.

Game 1: Embry-Riddle 8, Antelope Valley 2

The Pioneers scored two runs in the top of the first to start the day, and it would be the last time they would score the rest of the afternoon. The Eagles did answer with a five spot in the bottom of the first, as a pair of home runs by Mikaeli Davidson and Jaden Espinoza brought home all five for ERAU.

The game stayed at 5-2 until the bottom of the fourth, when Emma Almodoba hit a bases-loaded single to bring home a pair of runs. Danielle Jamieson doubled into the right-center gap to give the Eagles its eighth run in the fifth inning.

Almodoba and Diana Miranda Montano each had three hits, and there were four total Eagles with multiple hits. Alexus Marquez and Davidson each had a pair, and Kate Delaney had a hit to go along with the lone walk taken by an ERAU hitter.

In the circle, Davidson allowed three hits in the first inning, the shut down the Pioneers the rest of the game. Davidson allowed just one hit in the final six innings, and struck out seven batters along the way.

Game 2: Embry-Riddle 8, Antelope Valley 0 (5 Innings)

The Eagles continued its domination offensively, starting the game off with another five-spot in the first inning. While there were no home runs in this first inning outburst, Espinoza doubled, and Kate Delaney, Diana Miranda Montano and Davidson each recorded an RBI.

Miranda Montano drove in another run in the third, this time on a double to bring home Almodoba. Miranda Montano finished the afternoon of with a pair of hits, and also came around to score once.

Delaney finished the game with a walk-off RBI single to wrap in the game with a five-inning run rule. Delaney was the player to drive in the game's first run, and the game's final run.

Vanessa Brink won her 10th consecutive decision, and has given up just one earned run in the last 34 innings pitched. Brink struck out seven batters in the five innings of work on Saturday, and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning.

The Eagles will get back on the field to wrap up its series with Antelope Valley with a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch from the Eagles Softball Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
