Box Score 2 PRESCOTT, ARIZ. – The weather conditions were far from perfect for a softball doubleheader, but Embry-Riddle did keep its record perfect with another pair of wins over Saint Katherine. The Eagles are now 12-0, which is the best start to a season in program history.
Game 1: Embry-Riddle 14, Saint Katherine 1 (5 Innings)
Saint Katherine scored the first run of the game in the first inning, making it the first time Embry-Riddle trailed all series long. The Eagles would make sure that was the only time the Firebirds would score, as ERAU tallied the final 14 runs of the contest to earn the run-rule victory.
The big inning for the Eagles was in the third, where they posted ten runs in the frame to pull away. Embry-Riddle also recorded eight of its 11 hits in the inning, and also sent 13 players to the plate.
The Eagles recorded five extra-base hits in the third, getting three doubles, a triple and a home run. Diana Miranda Montano tacked on the final run of the frame with her solo home run, putting the stamp on the best offensive outburst of the season.
Miranda Montano was perfect at the plate, going 3-3 with two RBI. Danielle Jamieson put up her best run-producing performance so far this year, driving in four run with a pair of hits and scoring twice herself.
Right before the first game ended, the California Pacific Conference announced its Pitcher of the Week, and Mikaeli Davidson was in the circle when she won the award. Davidson continued to prove why she's the conference's best hurler, striking out six batters and allowing just two hits for her sixth win of the season.
Game 2: Embry-Riddle 9, Saint Katherine 3
The Eagles continued its offensive momentum in the second game of the day, as they scored the games first two runs in the opening inning. Jamieson got her fifth and sixth RBI of the day, singling up the middle to bring home a pair.
After scoring another one in the second, Embry-Riddle put on its best offensive inning in the fourth. The Eagles got two on to start the frame, then Emma Almodoba hit a home run to right field, the first of her ERAU career.
Maddie Judge extended her hitting streak to ten games with a pair of hits in the contest, and pushing her season batting average to .500. Miranda Montano had a 3-for-4 afternoon as well, driving in a pair in the process.
Seven days removed from her perfect game, Vanessa Brink had another outstanding performance in the circle, allowing just one earned run and striking out 13. It was the second time she punched out 10+ Saint Katherine batters, as Brink struck out exactly 10 in her start the day earlier against the Firebirds.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend with another huge four-game Cal Pac series against Simpson. The first doubleheader will be on Saturday, March 12 with first pitch from Eagles Softball Field scheduled for Noon.
