Box Score 2 COMPTON, CALIF. – For the third time this season, the Embry-Riddle softball team played the second-place team in the Cal Pac in a series, this time matching up with Marymount California. The Eagles started the day four games in front of the Mariners, and it stayed that way as the team split a doubleheader to start the weekend.
Game 1: Marymount California 2, #23 Embry-Riddle 1
The first game of a day was a pitcher's duel, as the two teams had just seven total hits. Trailing by two entering the seventh inning, the Eagles were able to scratch across a run but could not tie the game.
Diana Miranda Montano singled to lead off the seventh, then was pinch ran for by Brady Jeffery. Jeffery got to second on a groundout, then came around to score an error.
Danielle Jamieson had the other two hits for ERAU, reaching on singles in the second and fifth. Mikaeli Davidson struck out four and scattered the four hits over six innings.
Game 2: #23 Embry-Riddle 6, Marymount California 2
The Eagles once again held Marymount California to just two runs on four hits, and the offense for ERAU got going quickly. ERAU scored first, and trailed 2-1 until the fourth inning where they put up five unanswered runs.
Davidson and Rachel Hammons each had RBI singles in the fourth, then Davidson had another one in the fifth along with Jamieson. The Eagles had 14 hits in the game, 13 of those were singles.
The only extra-base hit was Kate Delaney's double in the sixth inning, eventually coming around to score. Delaney had three hits, as did Jamieson and Hammons in the afternoon's second contest.
Delaney, Jamieson and Hammons all each had an RBI as well, and Davidson drove in a pair. Emma Almodoba had the RBI single in the seventh, and every run driven in came on a one-base hit.
Vanessa Brink was excellent once again in the circle, striking out 12 en route to her 13th victory of the season. It is Brink's second 10+ punchout effort in three games, and now has 122 strikouts on the season.
The Eagles will wrap up its series with Marymount California with another doubleheader in Compton. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
