Box Score MEDFORD, ORE. – In its debut appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, the 24th-ranked Embry-Riddle softball team had a chance to tie the game with two outs in the seventh. Danielle Jamieson kept the game alive with a hustle double to right field, but was not able to come around as the Eagles dropped its opening game in the Southern Oregon Bracket to #10 Grand View 1-0 on Monday.
There was only a combined four hits in the game, as Eagles' freshman pitcher Vanessa Brink had an excellent performance in her National Tournament debut start. The Cal Pac Freshman of the Year allowed just three hits, striking our four, and getting out of a tight situation in the sixth to give her team a chance to win.
Grand View scored the game's only run playing small ball and holding on until the end. After a leadoff triple by Abby Sutten, the Vikings drove her in on a groundout, capitalizing on the best scoring chance of the game.
The Eagles will now face Taylor University in an elimination game on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch from Medford, Ore. is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
