Box Score RIVERSIDE, CALIF. – For the second straight game, the Embry-Riddle softball team rode an excellent performance from freshman pitcher Vanessa Brink to victory in the Cal Pac Tournament. The Eagles reached the Cal Pac Tournament Final with a 2-0 win over Marymount California in the tournament's first game on Thursday, staying unbeaten in the competition.
Brink was phenomenal once again, this time allowing just one hit and striking out six. After giving up a two-out double in the second inning, Brink retired the final 16 Mariner batters to pick up her second straight complete-game shutout in the tournament.
Brink has yet to give up a run in the competition, shutting out both Simpson and Marymount California. Brink has posted complete-game shutouts in three of her last four starts, and has allowed just one run in the last 26 innings in the circle.
The Eagles did strike early on Thursday, scoring in the first inning thanks to a Kate Delaney single. Embry-Riddle tacked on another run in the fifth thanks to Lily Anderson's two-out hit to double the lead.
Once again, the Eagles kept its opponent's defense busy, smashing seven hits and drawing a walk over the six innings at the plate. Delaney and Maddie Judge each had two hits, and Judge scored the game's opening run in the first.
Embry-Riddle will now play Marymount California for the Cal Pac Tournament Championship and a spot in the NAIA National Tournament. The Eagles only have to win one game on Friday while the Mariners will need to win two, and the first game between the two schools is scheduled for 11 a.m.
