Box Score 2 GLENDALE, ARIZ. – The Embry-Riddle softball team has its eyes on not just the Cal Pac Championship, but national success as well. The Eagles had a chance to open its season against on of the nation's best teams, as they took on 13th-ranked College of Idaho on Friday afternoon.
Game 1: #13 College of Idaho 2, (RV) Embry-Riddle 1
Vanessa Brink shined once again, making her first Opening Day start as an Eagle. Brink allowed just four hits over seven innings, and was charged with just one earned run on the day while striking out four.
The first run of the game did not come until the fourth inning, as College of Idaho finally broke the scoreless tie in the top half of the frame. The Yotes scored again in the fifth, but the Eagles put on a late rally to make the game tense.
Diana Miranda Montano led off the bottom of the seventh with a double, and then was driven home with a Jaden Espinoza single. Kate Delaney then singled to give ERAU two runners on with no outs, but the Eagles were unable to cut any more into the deficit. Autumn Sulusi recorded her first career hit as a member of Embry-Riddle with a single in the fifth.
Game 2: #13 College of Idaho 10, (RV)Embry-Riddle 0 (5 innings)
The second game of the afternoon was a rough ride for the Eagles, as they had just two baserunners in the five innings. Embry-Riddle held College of Idaho at bay offensively through the first two innings, but the Yotes scored runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to eventually end the doubleheader.
Embry-Riddle will get back on the field next Friday, February 3 when they travel to face OUAZ in Surprise. First pitch of the doubleheader from Willow Canyon High School is scheduled for 2 p.m.
