PRESCOTT, Ariz. – After scoring 21 runs yesterday, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) softball team put up 29 today in a Cal Pac doubleheader sweep of La Sierra as the Eagles took the series 4-0. Game 1

Embry-Riddle scored in every inning in the opener. After plating a pair in the first on an RBI single by junior Jaden Espinoza (Tucson, Ariz.) and an RBI double off the bat of sophomore Alexus Marquez (Las Vegas, Nev.), the Eagles erupted for seven in the second to essentially put the game away. After the first three runs scored, freshman Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawai'i) came up with the big blow, a grand slam that made it 9-0.

Sophomore Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) needed no additional help, starting and going four innings for ERAU. She gave up just one hit and struck out a pair would need in the circle. She picked up the victory, allowing just three hits over her five innings, striking out six without issuing a walk.

Sulusi finished the contest with five RBIS, with Espinoza collecting a pair of hits and three RBIs.  Seniors Jenna Sumpter (Ahwatukee, Ariz.) and Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.) drove in a pair for the Eagles.

Game 2

La Sierra picked up a pair of runs in the first inning in the second contest to take the early lead, but the lead was short lived as ERAU answered with two runs in its half of the inning. Embry-Riddle then took the lead in the third on an RBI single by senior Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.).

In the fourth the Eagles again used the long ball to put the game away, sending 14 hitters to the plate and scoring 10 runs. After one run came home ERAU loaded the bases for freshman Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.), who cleared the bases with a double to left center. Embry-Riddle again loaded the bases and this time got its second grand slam of the game, this time off the bat of freshman Jade Bayless (Redondo Beach, Calif.). Later in the inning Sulusi finished the scoring with her second blast of the day, a two-run shot.

Delaney got the start for the Eagles and gave up just the three runs on five hits, striking out five in earning her fourth victory of the season.
