Box Score 2 PRESCOTT, Ariz. – A pair of shoutouts completed a dominating weekend for the Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) softball team as the Eagles swept a California Pacific Conference doubleheader from Benedictine-Mesa by identical scores of 8-0 in five innings. With the sweep the Eagles were not scored on in the series and with their pitching giving up just a total of seven hits. ERAU remains undefeated in Cal Pac play at 14-0.
Game 1
Embry-Riddle used the long ball to get things going in the first inning of game one, with freshman Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawai'i) cranking a two-run shot and senior Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) a solo blast to get the Eagles off to a quick 3-0 lead.
Another home run, this time by freshman Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) started what became a five-run third. A double steal saw sophomore Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.) score before freshman Anise Romo (Waddell, Ariz.) doubled in another. Senior Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.) then capped off the inning with a two-run single.
Sophomore Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) was again strong in the circle for ERAU, giving up three hits over four innings, striking out five to pick up the victory.
Brink was outstanding in her start in the first game, going all the way to record her seventh win of the season. She gave up just one hit over her six innings, striking out eight without issuing a walk.
Brink received all the run support that she would need in the first when senior Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) tripled in senior Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.), who had doubled. The Eagles added their other run in the third when Miranda Montano doubled, move up on a base hit, and then scored on a sac fly by freshman Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawai'i).
Delaney then tossed the final inning to pick up her first save of the season.
Game 2
It was much of the same in the second game, with Embry-Riddle jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first, with the Eagles loading the bases before an out was recorded. An error allowed one run to score before Sulusi singled in two more. Junior Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) then drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-0.
In the second inning ERAU took advantage of three Redhawk errors, scoring four times on just two hits to put the game away. Freshman Claire Streeter (San Marino, Calif.) picked up her team-leading 10th win of the season, giving up just one hit over four innings, striking out a pair.
