Box Score 2 PRESCOTT, Ariz. – A solid day hitting and pitching by senior Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) led Embry-Riddle to a win in game one of their California Pacific Conference softball doubleheader against Saint Katherine, 9-0. A key home run by senior Jenna Sumpter (Ahwatukee, Ariz.) helped the Eagles take game two, 2-1.
Game 1
Delaney had a big day for Embry-Riddle in game one, driving in four runs while also throwing a complete game in the circle. She started the scoring in the first with single up the middle that plated a pair. She then scored on a two-run double of the bat of freshman Jade Bayless (Redondo Beach, Calif.). Fellow freshman Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawai'i) then completed the five-run first for the Eagles with an RBI triple to right.
Delaney was in control in the circle, allowing just two hits and a pair of walks to Saint Katherine to pick up her sixth win of the season. In the fourth she helped her cause again at the plate, this time belting a two-run home run that made it 7-0. Sophomore Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.) then put an end to things early in the bottom of the sixth, hitting her own two-run home run that gave the Eagles the 9-0 win.
Game 2
Game two proved to be a pitchers dual over the first four innings, with neither team scoring and the two sides combining for six hits. Embry-Riddle finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth when Sumpter cranked her second home run of the year. After a single and double put runners on second and third, the Eagles then picked up what proved to be the winning run when freshman Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) dropped down a perfect sacrifice bunt to bring home the second run of the inning.
Freshman Claire Streeter (San Marino, Calif.) got the job done in the circle, working around five hits and three walks, keeping the Firebirds in check until the seventh when they pushed across a run on a play that saw the Eagles commit two errors. Streeter struck out five and improved to 15-3 on the year.
