Embry-Riddle Completes Sweep of Saint Katherine

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – It was a good day for Embry-Riddle on the softball field as the Eagles completed a four-game, Cal Pac sweep of Saint Katherine by scores of 6-4 and 8-0. The wins clinched the 2023 Cal Pac regular season title for the Eagles and the No. 1 seed in the Cal Pac Tournament that will be hosted by ERAU May 3-5. Freshman Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawai'i) had a big day at the plate for Embry-Riddle, going a combined 4-for-6 with a pair of home runs in game two, driving in a total of seven for the day.

Game 1

Saint Katherine scored first in the opener, pushing across a run in the top of the second courtesy of an Eagle error. Embry-Riddle answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four times to take a lead it would not give up. With one down consecutive singles by Sulusi, senior Jenna Sumpter (Ahwatukee, Ariz.), and freshman Anise Romo (Waddell, Ariz.) loaded them up. An error allowed the tying run to score before a base hit by senior Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.) put ERAU on top. Freshman Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) then brought home another with a sac fly to right, with a second run scoring on a Firebird error.

Saint Katherine crept within two with a run in the top of the fifth, but ERAU answered again, scoring twice in the bottom half of the inning when Sulusi stoked a two-RBI single with the bases loaded.

Saint Katherine made it interesting in the top of the seventh when the Firebirds picked up a pair of runs on a double, but sophomore Alexus Marquez (Las Vegas, Nev.) got out of the jam when she got a pop out to short to end the game.

Game 2

Freshman Claire Streeter (San Marino, Calif.) led the way from the circle in game two for ERAU, shutting down Saint Katherine on just one hit in her complete game, shutout win. The Eagles picked up all they would need in the second when they scored four times. With runners on the corners senior Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) and freshman Jade Bayless (Redondo Beach, Calif.) pulled off a double steal, with Delaney's a steal of home and the 1-0 lead. Freshman Katie Jamieson (Tucson, Ariz.) then singled up the middle for another run before Sulusi homered for a 4-0 lead.

Freshman Jade Bayless (Redondo Beach, Calif.) added an RBI single in the third for ERAU before Sulusi walked it off in the fifth with her second bomb of the game, a three-run shot that ended the contest via the eight-run rule.
