Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 FULLERTON, Calif. – After getting shutout in the first game, the Embry-Riddle softball came back and returned the favor in the second game, gaining a split of its double header against No. 24 Hope International. Both games were decided by scores of 4-0. Senior Jenna Sumpter (Ahwatukee, Ariz.) had a key two-run double in the second game for the Eagles.
Game 1
Embry-Riddle could not solve the starting pitcher for Hope in the opener, as Allie Puente spun a no-hit gem against the Eagles, striking out 16 while allowing one walk. Junior Maddie Judge (Oro Valley, Ariz.) led off the game with that walk, but that would be it for the Eagles. Hope picked up all the runs it would need in the third when they picked up a two-out walk and then strung together three straight hits, the first two doubles, to score three times.
Game 2
Embry-Riddle only picked up three hits in the night cap, but it was enough, with all coming in the third inning. Junior Natalie Gonzalez (Poway, Calif.) led off with a double and eventually came around to score the first run of the game on a sac fly off the bat of freshman Anise Romo (Waddell, Ariz.). Senior Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.), scored on a wild pitch before senior Jenna Sumpter (Ahwatukee, Ariz.) finished things off with a bases-loaded double that gave ERAU a 4-0 lead.
That turned out to be all the run support that freshman Claire Streeter (San Marino, Calif.) needed I the circle. She scattered seven hits in picking up her 12th win of the year, striking out five without issuing a walk.
