IRVINE, Calif. – Embry-Riddle opened its four game California Pacific Conference softball series at Westcliff with a split. The Eagles received a solid pitching performance from sophomore Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) in a 3-0 victory before the Warriors bounced back for a 2-1 win in game two.

Game 1

Brink and freshman Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawai'i ) were the stars of game one for the Eagles, with Brink keeping Westcliff off the scoreboard for six innings and Sulusi driving in all three ERAU runs. Brink was in control during her time in the circle, allowing just two hits and striking out eight without giving up a walk.

Sulusi put the first run of the game on the board in the fourth, lofting a sac fly that scored senior Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.). In the sixth ERAU started the inning with a walk to freshman Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) and a base hit from senior Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.). That brought Sulusi to the dish and she drove one to left that went for a triple, plating both runners. Delaney also finished off the game in the circle, striking out a pair.

Game 2

Embry-Riddle picked up 10 hits in the second game but could only scratch across one run. Westcliff took advantage of an Eagle error in the first to pick up their first run, and then added their second in the third, rallying with two outs to pick up a pair of hits and a stolen base that led to the score.

After leaving 10 runners on over the first six innings without scoring, the Eagles broke through in the top of the seventh. Miranda Montano led off with a single and Salas brought her around to score with a double to left. That would be it for the Eagles, however, as the Warriors used a double play to end the contest.
