Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. – As they did on the first day of their California Pacific Conference softball series, Embry-Riddle and Westcliff battled to a doubleheader split. Both contests today were shutouts, with the Warriors taking game one, 5-0, before the Eagles came back for a 2-0 win in game two. Freshman Claire Streeter (San Marino, Calif.) led the way for ERAU in the second game, tossing a complete game shutout.
Game 1
Westcliff got to work early, getting a run on three hits in the first. It turned out to be a lead that the Warriors would not relinquish as Embry-Riddle could not come up with the big hit in the contest. The Eagles had runners aboard in five of the seven innings but left them all stranded; six in all. Freshmen Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) and Anise Romo (Waddell, Ariz.) each had a pair of hits for ERAU.
Westcliff gave themselves some breathing room with three runs on three hits in the fourth and then added an insurance run in the sixth as the Warriors went on to the victory.
Game 2
It was a tight one in the second game, with the two teams combining for four hit and no runs over the first three innings. Embry-Riddle broke through in the fourth when the Eagles loaded the bases on a error and a pair of walks. With one away junior Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) reached on another error that allowed junior Bradee Jeffery (Manteca, Calif.) to score. Romo then reached on a fielder's choice play that brought in sophomore Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.) with run two.
That proved to be all the scoring there would be in the contest. Streeter kept the Warriors off the board for all seven innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out seven to pick up the complete game win.
