Box Score PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Senior Kate Delaney (Fort Collings, Colo.) was on top of her game today as her pitching and hitting carried Embry-Riddle past Westcliff on the second day of the California Pacific Conference Tournament. She threw a five-inning no-hitter and drove in two runs in the Eagles' 9-0 victory. With the win ERAU, the No. 1 seed, will move on to the championship game of the tournament.
After a scoreless first, Embry-Riddle broke through in the second. Delaney led off the inning with a double to the gap in left center. She then beat the throw to third on a fielder's choice play that put runners on the corners for the Eagles. Sophomore Emma Almodoba (Tucson, Ariz.) then cleared the bases with a triple to right. She then came in to score on a sac fly off the bat of sophomore Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.).
Delaney was literally unhittable in the circle, allowing just three batters to reach; one on a walk, one on an error, and one on a fielder's choice. She retired the side in order in every inning but the third, setting down the final seven she faced in order.
In the third Delaney made it a 5-0 game with a two run homer before the Eagles put the finishing touches on the win with four more runs in the fourth. Three straight singles loaded the bases for junior Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) who brought home one run on a fielder's choice. Senior Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.) then made it 8-0 with a triple before scoring on a single from freshman Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) that closed out the scoring.
