Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle earned a split with the #19 Royals of Hope International on Saturday in Glendale at Arizona Christian as the Eagles won game one 2-1 before dropping game two 8-0.
Game 1
The first game of the double header was a pitcher's duel between Eagles pitcher Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) and Allie Puente of the Royals. Through the first three innings, each team had just one hit.
In the bottom of the 3rd Tatum Chestnut (Peoria, Ariz.) recorded the first hit and then Maddie Judge (Oro Valley, Ariz.) walked to put runners on first and second for ERAU but Embry-Riddle was unable to score a run.
Hope International got a leadoff triple in the top of the 5th inning and were able to take advantage with a single to follow as the Royals took a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Judge and Sam Holbert (Phoenix, Ariz.) both walked to put runners on first and second. Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawaii) hit a single to score both runners and give Embry-Riddle a 2-1 lead.
Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) pitched the top of the 7th and shut down Hope as she was credited with the save and Brink earned the win.
Game 2
Hope International jumped on top in the first inning with two quick runs. Embry-Riddle looked to answer in the bottom of the 1st as Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.) reached on a single, but the Eagles stranded her at 1st.
The Royals took advantage of a few defensive miscues by ERAU in the top of the third and fourth innings that led to four runs and a 6-0 lead for Hope.
The offense never got going for the Eagles in the second game as Hope went on to win 8-0.
Embry-Riddle will travel to Columbus, Georgia next to play in the NFCA classic February 16-18th.
