Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle split a doubleheader with OUAZ on Wednesday night as the Eagles earned the 8-0 five inning run rule victory before falling 4-1 to the Spirit in the nightcap.
Game 1
After holding the Spirit scoreless in the top of the first inning, Jaden Espinoza (Tucson, Ariz.) put the Eagles ahead with a solo shot over the left field fence to give ERAU the 1-0 lead after an inning.
Embry-Riddle added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Emma Almodoba (Tucson, Ariz.) hit a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single by Tatum Chestnut (Peoria, Ariz.) brought home Almodoba to make the score 2-0. Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) then hit a double followed by a triple from Maddie Judge (Oro Valley, Ariz.). After two innings of play, ERAU led 4-0.
The Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) hit a single to centerfield and moved to third on a double by Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.). A single from Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawaii) scored both Delaney and Anderson.
Neither team scored in the 4th inning and after a clean top of the 5th inning by the Eagles, ERAU was able to walk it off in the bottom of the inning. Anderson led off with a single followed by another single from Almodoba. Tutrone's second hit of the day, a single to centerfield, brought in both baserunners as Embry-Riddle won the game 8-0.
Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) earned the win, giving up just two hits and striking out five.
Game 2
This time it was OUAZ who scored first with as they went up 1-0 in the top of the 1st inning. The Spirit added another run in the 2nd inning, the 5th inning, and the top of the 7th as they led 4-0 going into the bottom of the 7th inning.
Embry-Riddle had runners on in the bottom of the 7th inning but only managed to score one run in the comeback.
Almodoba led off the inning with a single and then Camille Graham (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) pinch ran for her. Graham scored on a fielder's choice but unfortunately that was all the Eagles could manage to score as they lost game two 4-1.
Embry-Riddle will play again on April 5th as ERAU will continue Cal Pac play with La Sierra in Riverside, Calif.
