Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle earned a big 16-9 game one win at Eagle Softball Field in Prescott on Friday afternoon before losing in the second game 7-0.
Game 1
After Westclliff took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Embry-Riddle answered right away with three runs. Maddie Judge (Oro Valley, Ariz.) led off the inning with a single and then Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) hit a two run homerun to tie up the score at 2-2. One batter later, Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.) hit a solo shot to give ERAU the 3-2 lead.
The Eagles added seven more runs in the bottom of the second inning on three hits. Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawaii) started the inning with a double to right field. The next two batters Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Tatum Chestnut (Peoria, Ariz.) were both hit by pitches to load the bases. Salas earned her third RBI of the game when she was walked to bring home Tutrone. With two outs, Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) was hit by a pitch to plate Judge. Two more runners scored when Jaden Espinoza's (Tucson, Ariz.) hit led to a defensive error. With runners at first and second, Emma Almodoba (Tucson, Ariz.) doubled to right field and put runners at second and third. Sulusi's second hit of the inning brought home the 6th and 7th runs and gave Embry-Riddle a 10-2 lead after two complete innings.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Salas hit her second homerun of the day and brought home Judge again to make the score 12-2.
The first four batters of the bottom of the 4th inning all reached base safely on two walks and two hit by pitches for the Eagles. ERAU managed to bring three of the runners' home and held a 15-2 lead.
Just when it seemed like Embry-Riddle was going to win the game by run rule, Westcliff stormed back with seven runs in the top of the 5th inning to make the score 15-9
Sam Holbert (Gilbert, Ariz.) scored the Eagles 16th run of the game as ERAU won game one 16-9.
Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) pitched 6.1 innings giving up just two runs on three hits and striking out 14 batters.
Game 2
The second game of the doubleheader went the Warriors way. Westcliff scored two runs in the top of the first inning as they took advantage of a couple of defensive miscues by the Eagles.
Unlike the first game, ERAU had no answer to the quick Warrior runs. WU scored two runs in the first inning, added another in the third, and two more in both the 4th inning and the 5th inning as they held a 7-0 lead.
Embry-Riddle was unable to complete a comeback although the Eagles had chances with runners on in quite a few innings.
Westcliff won the second game of the day 7-0.
Embry-RIddle and Westcliff will play two more important Cal Pac games tomorrow afternoon in Prescott with the first pitch at 12pm. Embry-Riddle will be honoring the team's seniors prior to the first game at 11:30am.
